Fr. Jesmond Micallef – a New DLMPES’ Master in Ecumenical Studies

The official online master’s defense in the frame of the Distance Learning Master’s Program in Ecumenical Studies was held on April 6 at the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv.

Fr Laurent Cleenewerck a faculty member of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies, an academic and theologian, serving as professor of international administration and theology for EUCLID (Euclid University), rector and ordained priest of St Innocent Orthodox Church in Eureka, had an online lecture for the DLMPES’ students.

An online lecture with Fr. Dr. Oleh Kindiy, professor of the Ukrainian Catholic University, was held on March 9, 2017. In the frame of his course Survey of the Eastern Christian Tradition at DLMPES Fr Oleh raised one of the fundamental theme for the Eastern theology “Paradosis: The Eastern Orthodox Understanding of Tradition”.

Penny Cavill master’s thesis highly evaluated by the Academic commission of DLMPES

A successful online Master’s defense of the DLMPES’ student Penny Cavill was held on January 23, 2017. The head of the Master’s Commission Dr. Roman Zaviyskyi, Dean of the Philosophy and Theology Faculty at UCU, expressed his appreciation of the quality of the Cavill’s thesis and its presentation.

Institute of Ecumenical Studies invites for the 9th Ecumenical Social Week

For nine successive years Ecumenical Social Weeks have been held in Lviv. Each year, with the support of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Lviv City Council, Lviv Regional Council and Administration, National University "Lviv Polytechnic", the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at UCU initiates the all-Ukrainian public Forum. Traditionally during the autumn season the representatives of various faiths, religious organizations, education, authorities, business, public sector, media and all people of good will gather and share their experience and work out solutions towards social problems.

Words of Condolences on the occasion of the Death of Dr. Kiyoshi Seko

After fighting various complications arising from the surgery, Dr. Kiyoshi Seko, IES faculty member, tragically passed away on Saturday, May 7. The funeral mass was held the day after at the parish of the city of Daito, Osaka.

Laurent Cleenewerck, rector of St Innocent Orthodox Church in Eureka, CA and a faculty member of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies, travelled last week to Amman, Jordan, at the invitation of King Abdullah II to be recognized for his recent contribution to Christian-Muslim and interfaith dialogue.

Representatives of various Christian traditions and military prayed together for Church unity and peace in Ukraine

On January 21, at the Chapel of the Ukrainian Catholic University was held an ecumenical prayer for Christian unity and peace in Ukraine. The Institute of Ecumenical Studies has been traditionally inviting representatives of different Christian denominations to pray together during the World Week of Prayers for Christian Unity.
